Answer:

Hi Mohamed,

As long as you have a male and a female, then you would want to get them a wooden nesting box. This is quite large, because the chicks will be almost as large as the adults before they leave the nest box. So I’m not sure what you mean by a pot, but the nest needs to be an enclosed wooden box with one hold for the birds to go in and out of. Normally there is a hinged top that can be opened in order to inspect the eggs or chicks. The nest box needs to be attached to the outside of the cage, as high as possible. The first time they lay eggs, they generally will not hatch chicks. They need to learn how to do everything and they rarely get it right the first time. It’s important for them to be on a nutritionally balanced diet like pellets – a seed diet does not provide the nutrition they need. You can also offer dark leafy greens, chopped veggies, multi grain bread and cooked eggs with the shell cleaned, crushed and cooked with the eggs. This provides the extra protein and calcium that the female needs when she is laying eggs and feeding chicks. Once they have what they need, all you can do is wait and hope that they do everything right.
