About cockatiel breeding box

Hi I am Jayson I have a pair cockatiel birds I have installed a bit big size breeding box for them but they never enter in the breeding box and do not mate could you tell me why and what we should keep in the breeding box to enter

Answer:

Hi Jayson,

When setting up breeding birds, it is best to make sure they are compatible and ready to breed before you give them the nest box. For now, I would remove the box or block off the entry if the box can’t be taken down easily. If they do start breeding, you will need a way to stop them from using the box at times anyway, because you have to force a pair to rest in between clutches. Once you remove or block off the box, give them privacy other than when you feed them. If you are constantly checking on them, they are not likely to breed – they need privacy. If they bond, you will see them grooming each other and possibly feeding each other. They will sit together and spend most of their time together. If they do finally start to mate, then you can give them the box. They don’t have interest in a nest right now because they are not ready to breed. So just give them some time to get into breeding condition and hopefully when they get the nest back, they will try it out.
