African grey
My African grey is bleeding under his wing
Hi Jayne,
He may have broken a blood feather, or injured himself somehow. It’s important to take him to a Vet ASAP. If he is bleeding heavily, you can try to use a styptic powder made for pets, or use flour or corn starch to try to stop the flow. If you can see there is a broken end of a blood feather still in his wing, and you have someone to help, you can pull out the rest of the feather and that should stop the bleeding. You must support the wing when pulling out a blood feather or you can break the wing. Keep him quiet and in a dark place, as this will calm him and slow his heart rate and blood flow.
Take care,
Brenda
