African Grey super aggressive towards hands.

My 3 year old african gray has always been aggressive towards me and to this day bites me when I try and practice step up. We have never ever hurt him he has just always been like that. As a baby he was very sweet but as he weened off of porridge he became aggressive. How can I effectively teach him step up training and teach him not to bite. Should I do this inside or outside the cage? Please help I want to spend time with my bird friend.

Answer:

Hi,

The best thing to do is consult with a pet bird behaviorist. This is not a simple behavior to work on and a behaviorist can figure out what is causing this and how to work with the bird. Lisa Bono is a certified pet bird behaviorist and specializes in African Greys. You can contact her at [email protected]
