African love bird breeding problem

My African love bird starts the matting process before 1 month but still not lay the egg. What are the reason for that?

Answer:

Hi Jeshoit,

There can be many reasons – she may be too young, she should be about 2 years old before you let her breed. She may not be a viable breeder, she may not like her breeding environment or feel her nest is not safe. All you can do is provide a private breeding environment, a lovebird nest box attached high in the cage, a nutritionally balanced diet and of course a mate that she bonds with. You can’t make the breed or lay eggs, and some birds just do not make good breeders. Breeding birds takes a lot of patience so just keep providing what they need and hopefully she will start laying eggs at some point.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
