Are raw Quaker Oats ok to feed?

I was told why verde’s feather quality is deteriorating, malnutrition I’m such a horrible owner I thought I was doing everything right yet I’m doing it all wrong so I started feed verde healthy meals not just her pellets and nutri-berries I’ve started to feed her spinach, bananas, apple Romain lettuce (that she’s picky about lol) and I want to feed her some oats with banana, I read that oats and good thing to feed to your bird my moms a cooler so she has lots of different food stuff in the house and Dosent mind sharing with little verde, We have raw Quaker Oats is that ok to give to verde and if so how should I serve then to her?

Answer:

Hi Morgan,

Pellets and Nutri-Berries are both nutritionally balanced and should provide all of the nutrition Verde needs, whether she eats fresh foods or not. If you also give her other dry foods like loose seeds, then this dilutes the nutrition she is getting from her pellets and Nutri-Berries. Also, when feeding Nutri-Berries, you need to make sure she is eating most of each berrie. If she only picks out a few favorite seeds and wastes the rest, she isn’t getting the full nutritional benefit of the food. In that case, you need to only give her one or two at a time. As long as she also has her pellets, she will have plenty to eat. Do not give her more Nutri-Berries until she has eaten most of the berries you gave her. If she throws it down, put it back in the dish as long as it didn’t land in poop. Again, make sure she has the pellets available. When feeding fresh foods, offer more veggies and greens than fruit. However, bananas are packed with nutrition and also aids in digestion, so she can have a piece of banana every day. With anything, one small piece is enough because she is a small bird. Carrots and sweet potatoes are usually a favorite – grate them raw or try steaming them if she doesn’t like them raw. Green beans, corn and broccoli are other good foods to offer. They normally love the broccoli florets. As far as the oats, I don’t think they would offer much in the way of nutrition so I would stick to healthy veggies and greens, bananas, and then the daily staple – the pellets and Nutri-Berries. I know you have fed her well from the start, so I think the only thing that may have caused this is if you were feeding her loose seeds or letting her be choosy with what she eats from a Nutri-Berrie. And her medicine and bacterial infection may have also contributed. Plus she may still need to go through an adult molt. Remember you will not see an improvement in her feathers until she molts out the old feathers and grows new ones.

Thanks for the update,

Brenda
