Bird sitting on egg

There is one bird (I dont know the name/bred) that laid 4 eggs in my ballcony. I watch it every day and when it sees me it fly away and later come back to sit on the eggs. This morning I checked it there was no more eggs in the nest and I know no one has been to my ballcony to remove the 4 eggs. I am shocked, do you have an idea what might have happened to the eggs. Could it be the bird has carried the eggs to somewhere else or what happened?

Answer:

Hi,

Wild birds have a lot of predators, and many that eat eggs. A snake or rodent may have raided the nest for the eggs. Possibly the eggs were not good and the parents left, but the eggs would have still been in the nest. They are incapable of carrying eggs and do not relocate once nesting. If something threatens a nesting pair, they will abandon a nest and start over somewhere else.
