Blood feather

Hey. My cockteil got wound in her wings . I took her to the vet doctor. She gave some medicine for 3 days , after taking it she felt good but still she has 4-5 five blood feathers.. is it dangerous to leave Like that ?

Answer:

Hi,

I don’t quite understand what your concern is? All feathers are called blood feathers when they are growing in, because they have a blood supply. Once the feather has reached full length, the blood supply stops. If a blood feather is broken at the point where it has the blood supply, the part of the feather that is still in the bird will bleed unless the rest of the feather is removed. If a mature feather breaks, there is no blood. Unless the bird is missing other feathers in the area where the new blood feathers are growing in, you should not be able to see the part of the feather that has blood. If you are concerned abut your bird, you should take her back to the Vet.
