Blue and gold machaws

For months they go in and out in nestbox..but no eggs..it is a mature pair..they had already feed each other..but not mating..what could be the problem.

Answer:

Hi Hannelie,

Breeding birds is not easy and requires a lot of patience. It is a good sign that they are ready to lay eggs, but at this point, all you can do is wait and see. Breeding birds need privacy so don’t check on them too often – just when it is time to feed them and then one or two other times each day. They won’t breed if they don’t feel secure, the weather needs to be the right temperature – not too hot or too cold. They need a fortified diet with fresh fruits and veggies. Cooked eggs are good for breeding birds. Once they have everything they need, you just have to wait and hope they mate and lay eggs. Not all pairs will breed even if you provide everything they need. There is nothing you can do to make them breed.
