Bonding 2 male cockatiels

Hi, I have 2 male cockatiels both in seperate cages beside each other. So far everything has been well and have moved onto letting them out together. The second male cockatiel sometimes goes into the others cage to sleep and explore around it and sometimes my first cockatiel joins him but recently I’ve noticed that my first cockatiel has been behaving in a negative way by biting the tail feathers of my second cockatiel and telling him off when he gets too close to him. What should I do in this situation? Do i seperate them and start again with the process?

Answer:

Hi,

Any fighting that involves feather pulling or blood means they need to be split up again before it escalates. It may be that these birds can get along with supervision, as long as each have their own cage to do back to. Not all birds are compatible to share a cage. Just give it time and maybe their bond will develop and get stronger.
