Bonding

once a pair bond is established between human and bird, is it possible to break that? or is lessening the behaviors/hormones the best we can hope for?

Answer:

Hi Lauren,

To some degree, we all have a pair bond with our pet birds. Adult birds in the wild pair up and don’t interact casually with other birds after they have a mate. However, it is best to avoid hormonal triggers and bond through activities like foraging and training. If your bird has been reacting hormonally, because you were unaware of the triggers, changing your behavior will help the bird settle down and be less hormonal.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
