BREADING

AFTER TAKING THE NEST OUT OF MY LARGE CAGE WITH 15 SOCIETY FINCHES . WILL THEY STILL BREED AND DROP EGGS ?. IF SO WHAT SHOULD I DO. IVE GOT A YOUNG BROTHER AND SISTER TRYING TO BREED AT 4 MONTHS OLD.

Answer:

Hi,

You should not have nests in a cage with more than 2 birds in it. If you want to breed, you should only have one pair per cage. It’s good that you removed the nest. You can’t allow related bird to produce chicks. They probably will lay eggs sometimes, but you should throw the eggs away as soon as you see them. It is best to separate any related birds by sex. Brothers and sisters and parents should not be living in the same cage. If you keep them together do not ever let them hatch any eggs. If you are not willing to throw the eggs away, then you need to have all males in one cage and all females in another cage. If you keep them all together, never give them nests, take away anything they try to use as a nest such as food bowls, and replace with smaller cups for food.
