Budgie

How to increase size of budgie

Answer:

Hi,

There are two varieties of budgies that have been created through captive breeding from the wild Australian Budgie. The American budgies were bred for color, so color was favored over quality, resulting in a smaller bird. The Europeans bred for conformation, choosing only the largest, healthiest birds for breeding. This meant that for decades, English Budgies were mostly only the original green color of the wild budgie. Since about the 90’s, they worked on getting more colors, so English Budgies can be found in a variety of color mutations, although the normal green color are still the largest. So in order to breed larger birds, you need to acquire pure English budgies.
