budgie cere change
My two year old female budgie’s dark brown crusty cere is starting to turn light blue on one side. What is wrong?

Hi,
When the cere is brown and crusty, that usually means she is hormonal and in breeding condition. It’s perfectly normal for the cere to go back to light blue or white. It should be like that most of the time, rather than her being in a hormonal state most of the time. If her cere remains brown and crusty, you might try keeping her light limited to no more than 8-10 hours by covering her cage early each evening. Also avoid giving her anything to sit in – no nests, huts, etc. Unless she has a mate and you want them to breed and in that case, they only need a nest box.
