Budgie eggs
I have a pair of budgies in a single cage a few days ago I saw a broken egg shell inside the cage, today the female laid another egg however she didn’t sit on it while the male dropped the egg from the breeding box, what should I do?

Hi,
Unfortunately there isn’t anything you can do to make a pair into good breeders. Some break eggs, and usually this is not a habit they will stop. If they are under 2 years old, they are really too young to be set up for breeding, and bad habits like this are more common. Young birds would rather mate than care for eggs or chicks. The best thing to do when she has finished laying these eggs, is remove the nest box and rest the pair for 6 months. After the rest, you can replace the box and let them try again. If they continue to break the eggs, then it’s best to take the box away and not try to breed them again. Some birds are simply not good at breeding.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
