Budgie eggs

Will a bubgie sit on another budgies eggs

Answer:

Hi Stewart,

It depends on the pair and the situation. Some birds breeders will keep pairs of good foster birds in case they have a pair that won’t incubate their eggs. Generally this is an older retired pair or an infertile pair that happens to be good at incubating eggs and raising chicks. Sometimes if there are several pairs on eggs, and one pair won’t sit, the bird breeder might put that bird’s eggs in with some of the other pairs eggs if they are due to hatch at the same time. But if all of the eggs hatch, you may have to step in and hand feed some of the chicks if there are too many for the parents to feed.

Do you have more than one pair of birds? Or do you have more than one pair in a cage with nest boxes set up? I’m unsure of your situation but basically you need to only have one pair of breeding birds in a cage. If they do not incubate their eggs, it’s usually best to leave the eggs and hope they start to sit. If not, then you rest them and then let them try again after a few weeks. Most pairs will not have success the first time, and some fail a few times. But you need to give them a chance to learn. If they continue to fail, then that pair should not be given a box anymore or set up for breeding.
