budgie fighting

budgies laid eggs and was sitting on them one day they had a bloody fight and brook the eggs what can i do

Answer:

Hi Abe,

When this happens, you need to split the pair up. Are the birds at least 2 years old? If not, then I would keep them separated until they are both 2. When you try to breed birds that are too young, there are always more complications. Generally the male is more interested in mating than caring for eggs or chicks, so he will get aggressive with the hen to make her leave the nest. If these birds are 2 or older, they may simply not be compatible or aren’t good breeders. Not all pairs get along and not all birds are good breeders. You can try again after a 6 month rest, or longer if they are not 2 yet. Pairs should always be rested with no nest box for 6 months in between each clutch of eggs, whether they hatch or not.
