budgie fluffing Ask the Vet Webinar Feb 24

My budgie often fluffs the just feathers over his spine just before his tail feathers. The rest of his feathers are smooth. Does this mean anything?

Hi Glenna,

This is a fairly common stance for a budgie who is relaxing. But it could also be a sign of something going on, especially in an older bird. If he sits that way while shifting from foot to foot and acts restless, this could be an indication of pain. But if he just does this for a short time, and then goes back to whatever he was doing, then he is probably just taking a pause or short break. However, you know your bird best, so if this concerns you, then it might be time for a Vet check.
