Budgie laid eggs

My budgie laid eggs, and she didn’t sit on them until days after she laid the 9th one. She’s now sitting on them, is that normal?

Answer:

Hi Laura,

Some hens do not sit at first, but 9 eggs is a lot, and waiting so long is not normal. It may be due to inexperience if this is her first time. Are she and the male at least 2 years old? Younger birds do not do as well with breeding. Just wait and see what she does and if the eggs hatch, hopefully she will feed them. Once she is done with this clutch, remove the box and rest the pair for 6 months before letting them breed again.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
