Budgie survivsl

My cage fell and the male budgie got frantic snd flew off and the female with the 4 baby budgies and 2 budgies that are about 8 days old are in the nest box…will the mother budgie be able to survive and rear the young

Answer:

Hi,

I’m sorry this happened. I don’t quite understand how many baby budgies are in the cage? Do you still have a previous clutch in the cage with new babies? This is a bad idea – they need to be removed. As for the 8 day old chicks, the female may or may not care for them. With something as dramatic as a cage falling, plus the mate flying away, she may abandon the chicks. Usually any changes with the cage or where it is will cause the parents to abandon any eggs or chicks. All you can do is try to hand feed them if you know how and if you have any formula. If not, they won’t last more than a day without being fed, unfortunately.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
