Budgie

What to do if my budgie wing bleeds

Answer:

Hi Melanie,

It depends on where it is bleeding, although either way you will need to take him to an avian vet. If he was injured, the vet needs to treat the area and he may need medication. If he has broken a blood feather – a new feather that is growing in – it is important to pull the rest of the feather out. This can be difficult and can result in injuring or breaking the wing if you aren’t careful. In this case he may need to go to an avian vet to have the rest of the feather pulled or it will continue to bleed.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
