Hi,
I’m sorry for your loss. You will need to observe the flock and see if there is one bird that seems to always be alone. Sometimes with that many birds, it can work out even if you lose one. But if you notice the same bird being alone or being chased or bullied by others, then you need to consider getting another bird for that one. Do not get a baby or really young bird. It would be in danger from the others. If you get another bird, it needs to be in a cage near the other birds, but kept separate for at least 30 days to make sure it is healthy. Then put the cage right next to the group cage and wait and see how the bird reacts. If it shows interest and the birds in the cage are interested, you can introduce the new bird, but watch very carefully to make sure it doesn’t get bullied or attacked. Never give the flock any type of nests. This will cause fighting and territorial behavior. You can’t breed birds like this – you can only have one pair in a cage for breeding. Just keep enjoying your flock as they are.
Thank you for asking Lafeber,
