Budgies

One of my budgies beak(downward part) and its tongue has become black colour. Why is it so?Is it dangerous or not a problem?

Answer:

Hello,

Do you use newspaper and has the bird been chewing on that or anything with black ink? If not, then you need to take your budgie to an avian vet as soon as possible. It sounds like he has injured himself or more likely been bitten by another bird. Black indicates dead tissue so this sounds like a serious injury. If the bird can’t eat, then he will die very quickly. A budgie can be in danger after only 12 hours without food during the day. If the damage is permanent, then he will need to be fed a soft diet for the rest of his life. But he needs to be seen by a Vet and then the Vet can advise you on how to care for him.

Take care,

Brenda
