Calcium

Do you need calcium supplement for non laying female? my conure has never laid eggs, I don’t give her extra calcium now

Answer:

Hi Cindy,

Calcium supplements are generally not needed for daily maintenance as long as the bird is being fed a nutritionally balanced diet. In some cases, there may be a medical cause for a bird to need some type of specific nutritional supplement, such as egg laying females needing calcium support during breeding season. Actually, supplementing a non-egg laying female with calcium could be a trigger for her to lay eggs.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
