Canary attacking

I had my canary since 6 months and I always try to interact with him…one day I was trying to approach him with some food he likes, he opened his wings, beak and started acting defensive. It’s the first time he does this. Usually he fly away once I put hand inside the cage.

Answer:

Hi Selim,

It sounds like he is feeling hormonal and this makes him more territorial than usual. It’s a sign that he isn’t scared of you. He viewed your hand as a threat to his territory. Just be reassuring when you approach his cage and ignore the behavior. This is probably seasonal and he will stop when he isn’t feeling like he needs to breed and make a nest.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
