Cataracts

37 is y.o. mollucan cockatoo hen who is developing cataracts in both eyes. Still small but large enough to see.

Answer:

Hi Adrianne,

Here is Dr. Tully’s response:

This is difficult to answer because I have not seen the dark spots in your bird and do not recall this being a problem in any birds I have treated. It is most likely an age-related condition if you have recently noted their development. I would recommend taking the bird to a veterinary ophthalmologist to make sure there is nothing more serious than a geriatric change to the iris coloration.
