My dove has 2 eggs in nest but the male won’t leave her alone should I separate then

Answer:

Hi Theresa,

Both parents help incubate the eggs and care for the chicks. It’s too much for just the female. If your birds are too young to breed, this may be the issue. Make sure they have plenty of privacy. As long as he isn’t pecking her and drawing blood, you can leave them together and hope he settles down. If he is injuring her, you need to separate him, but you will have to watch the female and make sure she eats and drinks. Not all birds make good breeders, and some males do not settle down. You will just need to work with them and see what they do.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
