Chicks++

Thank you for your support, first time doing this.
2 chicks are out now, the first one is eating seed, crushed pellets and banana.. put greens in the area, think most of it fell to the floor.. Parents are feeding all the chicks, yes its their first clutch.. I clean the nest every second day, so I will definitely take any eggs out, if they do appear. Mom and dad are to busy to think about that..lol The second chick does go to the floor of the cage, so thats were a plate of assorted food is kept for mom snd dad. All going well, so excited to see the healthy family. Was very nervous whe the eggs started but did a ton of research.. Still reading and asking as many questions as I can.. Thanks again..

Answer:

Hi Linda,

Your pair is definitely what we call the exception. Most first clutches fail. Your pair is doing great! And most pairs will not tolerate having the nest box cleaned. They will tend to abandon the eggs or chicks when this is done. But, some pairs can be very tolerant and manage to get everything done the right way.

The older chicks may wean and be ready for you to separate them before the younger chicks are ready. This would give the pair some help. But wait until the two oldest are both self feeding without mom & dad feeding them, then they can be moved together.

Thanks for the updates,

Brenda
