Classic nutri berries parrot food

Hello, I bought the big bucket of nutri berries (classic) parrot food for my sun conure. He seems to love it like it’s crack (LOL). My question is, should I not be feeding him this as I am just made aware there is a nutri berries conure made specifically for conures. Is the classic ok for my sun conure? Is this a treat, or a staple diet? I can’t see how it would hurt him, but I just want to make sure it’s ok for him.

Answer:

Hi Nick,

I’m glad your Conure is enjoying his Nutri-Berries! The parrot size is fine for him  – we make different sizes but the nutrition is mostly the same. So he can have whatever size he prefers. Nutri-Berries are a foraging diet that can be fed as a daily staple. All of our foraging diets are formulated the same as a pellet, but they are not ground up. You can feed Nutri-Berries, Pellet-Berries, and Avi-Cakes alone, combined or along with pellets. We make several flavors to offer even more variety. When feeding these foods, it is best to give him as many as he can eat without wasting too much. If you find there is a lot of waste, reduce the number you give him at a time and then give him more once he eats what he has. The more you offer at a time, the more he is likely to waste. This relates to how wild parrots feed, where when food is abundant, they will eat a few choice bites and then drop the rest. This helps to re-plant the environment and feed ground dwelling animals. But in our homes, it’s annoying! 🙂 Once he learns to eat all of each berry, he will eat anywhere from 6-12 daily. It varies depending on his activity and individual metabolism. You can also offer fresh fruits and veggies, leafy greens and healthy table foods.
