Cleaning Cockatiels cage when there are eggs

My cockatiels have laid eggs-abandoned the first set- and now has laid a new one. But they get very possessive and attack when we go to change their food and water bowls, which also makes cleaning the cage a bit difficult

Answer:

Hi,

Breeding pairs do need privacy, so with many pairs, you need to only feed them and not clean the cage while they have eggs or chicks. Once any chicks are weaned and separated from the parents, you can give the cage and nest box a thorough cleaning and then wait 6 months before giving them the nest box again, because the parents need to rest.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
