Cockateil vomiting

Hi Lafeber team,
My baby cockatiel ( 1 month++ ), after had been hand reared thru a syringe, it’ll vomit little portion of foods out. And I found that, at all the time, I need to feed it with a little force. Mean to say, it refuse to eat willingly. And it’s pooh were watery. Need your good advice on the matter.
Thanks.

Answer:

Hi Joy,

Loose droppings are to be expected with a hand feeding baby. But any type of regurgitating can indicate a problem. You may be over feeding him, or the formula isn’t the right temperature or consistency, or the baby isn’t warm enough. It can also be an indication of a bacterial or yeast infection which are very common with handfeeding chicks. You should never have to force him to eat. In light of all of this, I would take him to an Avian Vet as soon as possible. A baby bird can die very quickly from an infection or from aspirating food, so it is best not to wait.

Take care,

Brenda
