Cockateil

My cockateil 3 years old, they mate quite often and female goes inside the box to lay eggs and stays there for a long time but the eggs never hatch, it’s been a year

Answer:

Hi Madiha,

It is time to remove the nest box and let the birds rest. If you have to, split them up and let them be in cages side by side. If she has been laying eggs off and on for a year, this is too long and it is too hard on her system. At this point she would not be able to produce healthy eggs or chicks. Let her rest for about 6 months and then set them up for breeding again. If she lays eggs and they still do not hatch, she is either not sitting on them correctly or possibly she or the male is not fertile. Not all birds make good parents and some can do everything right and still not produce chicks. A good rest should help her but if not, then take the box down permanently and just let them be pet birds.
