Cockatiel. Breeding

I have I have a pair of cockatiels they just laid an egg and they took all the nesting material out before should I put some in the nest box or just leave it alone

Answer:

Hi Hector,

This is normal – most cockatiels reject any nesting material we put in their box. Now that she is laying eggs, you need to give them plenty of privacy. It’s important that they are being fed a nutritionally balanced diet like pellets or our foraging foods. They also need some dark leafy greens and chopped veggies. While she is laying eggs and if they end up with chicks to feed, you should be offering egg food daily. This can be a commercial egg food, or you can cook an egg with the shell washed, crushed and cooked with the egg. This is important for the female to replace the protein and calcium she loses when she forms each egg, and it’s also good for the parents to feed the chicks.
