Cockatiel feathers

My cockqtielw are loosing soft chest feathers is this normal they are about 5 years old and we live in South Africa its rather hot at the moment

Answer:

Hi,

It sounds like they are plucking their own feathers. They may be too hot. They can tolerate cold better than really hot temperatures. It’s possible they are trying to nest, but usually a pair will not nest in extreme heat. I think the heat is likely the cause. You can try misting them lightly with water during the hottest part of the day.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
