Cockatiel In High Altitude

Hello, I have brought my Cockatiel to Denver several times. This time we plan to go to the mountains. Is my cockatiel okay to go to that high of an elevation?

Answer:

Hi Melissa,

Birds seem to adapt to altitude changes better than humans. Your cockatiel should do fine as long as he is healthy and not an extremely elderly bird. There have been scientific studies on how birds adapt to altitude. But nobody can give a definitive answer on whether a bird used to sea level can get altitude sickness at high altitudes

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
