Cockatiel pal?

I have a 22 year old cockatiel that once belonged to my daughter (about 18 years ago!) There were two males originally who did not actually fight but would occasionally pick on each other. This is why I did not want to get another cagemate for Cleo when Kaveeka died. But I often wonder – did I make the right decision? Should Cleo have a cagemate? The cage is fairly spacious- 4′ x 4′ x 3″ and situated in our living area where Cleo gets a lot of interaction and can watch the goings on and the view outside.

Answer:

Hi Alison,

Cleo is a senior bird, so at his age, I wouldn’t try to get another bird to be in the same cage. A younger bird might bully him. It sounds like he has a lot of enrichment and a nice, large cage. Just keep giving him attention, offer fun toys and let him enjoy the senior lifestyle.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
