Cockatiels not mating

age:

male 13 month (apx.)

Answer:

Hi,

The main issue is that your birds are too young to be paired and to be breeding. They may be capable of breeding at this age, but they are not fully developed physically or emotionally. They are more interested in being teenagers than being parents. I would keep them apart until both birds are 2 years old. The serious cockatiel breeders who breed their birds for show, will not pair or breed their birds until they are at least 2 years old. Young birds are much more likely to make mistakes or develop bad breeding habits that can ruin them for being breeders when they get older. Once both birds are 2 years old, you can try to introduce them again. Some birds simply are not compatible. But before you decide that, I would let them get fully mature and give them another chance to bond at that time.
