Cockatoo prolapse – Dr. Lamb Webinar 3/17

I have a female U2 that intentionally prolapses. Deslorelin implants do not seem to work. Do you have any other suggestions? I have talked with her veterinarian about asymmetrical cloacoplasty.

Answer:

Hi Amy,

Here is Dr. Lamb’s response:

If this bird has prolapsed more than just a few times and it’s starting to become a real issue, and behavioral modification techniques and hormones like deslorelin are not helping, I would highly recommend that asymmetrical cloacoplasty. Definitely talk with your vet about it more as it can be helpful. Know that sometimes that even fails but it’s more likely to give you some longer term help.
