I just got a 6 week old male budgie 2 days ago and yesterday he flew out of the cage while we were trying to feed him because he wasnt eating. When he flew out he banged into a couple walls then fell onto the floor. We immediately put him into a nice bowl covered with papertowel and layered the floor with food and a bottle cap with water. The next day ( today ) he is trying to get up but is failing. Please explain this situation
Thanks for reaching out to Ask Lafeber. I’m so sorry about this. It’s really difficult to know for sure what injuries he may have. With an impact like this, a number of things could have happened. It’s unclear if he has broken bones or if he has internal injuries. Either or both could have happened. My suggestion would be to take him to an avian veterinarian right away so they can do an X Ray. That is probably the only way you can find out what injuries he has. He sounds pretty critical. Hopefully he’s still willing to eat something. Can you tell if he’s having droppings and are there any blood in them?
