continuous death of budgies

I had 7 Budgies, 3 females and 4 males. two males fought yesterday and one of them died after few minutes. Next day after that incident 5 birds died turn by turn. they all were healthy, taking enough food and water. Also they were showing no symptoms except change in breathing pattern before death. What can be the reason behind it?
Thank you

Answer:

Hi Kashvi,

I’m very sorry for your losses. It sounds like some type of disease has gone through your birds. The one male may have been the first to get sick, and the other male attacked it or this reason. A sick bird is a danger to a flock, so often it gets attacked to drive it away. I would take the remaining bird to an Avian Vet to try to find out what is wrong with it. I will say when keeping groups of birds together, you should always have even numbers. They will tend to pair off, even if they are the same sex, and the odd bird gets picked on and left out.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
