Conure behavior

My 8 year old crimson bellied conure likes to sleep in my shirt by the neck. He does it all year long. Is this a concern?

Answer:

Hi Eileen,

Since you have a male and you didn’t mention any unwanted behaviors, then it’s probably OK to continue this. If he becomes hormonal, the main risk would be getting bitten if someone gets too close to you. Conures in the Pyrrhura genus seem to defy many of the “rules” pet parrots. They are generally gentle and often remain that way throughout their life without having many of the common behavior issues. I know people who have pairs that breed during breeding season, and go back to being pet birds the rest of the year. And many of them will be good with everyone in the family rather than just choosing one person.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
