So my I believe 6-9 months conure well, no one knows her exact age but we’ve had her for a while. She’s a pineapple concurs and ever since we got her she looks like she’s been biting her tail a lot. I don’t know why. I wanna be able to help get stop or anything.

Hi Erika,
Your bird is actually a Green Cheeked Conure/Parakeet and her color mutation is called Pineapple. So you can search for information on green-cheeked conures/parakeets to learn more about them. As for the tail biting, does she have plenty of toys? Green cheeks are very playful. They need a large cage, plenty of toys and time out of the cage. She should never have a bird hut, tent, house or anything like this. Green cheeks tend to eat the fabric and this eventually kills the bird. Any type of house or nest can also cause her to lay eggs, which can lead to serious health issues, some of which are fatal. She needs to be on a balanced diet, such as pellets or our foraging foods. A loose seed mix is not a nutritious diet. You can also offer greens, fruits and veggies as 20% of her diet. If she has not been to the Vet, this would be a good start to make sure she doesn’t have anything medically wrong. Biting at the tail is usually from boredom, too small of a cage, or even nervousness. We offer a free webinar series that you can register for, and you can also watch our past webinars on YouTube. I’ll give you the links, and also links to our pages on behavior and training so you can better understand why she does certain things.
