Covering the cage

Do you have to cover the cage of a parakeet at night?

Answer:

Hi Bonnie,

You can cover the cage but generally it is not required. If your house is drafty at night, it is good to cover the cage. If there are lights on at night that might keep the bird awake, then a cover is a good idea. Some birds feel more secure with a cover. It is important to talk to the bird before you start to remove the cover each morning so you do not startle it.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
