Dehydration

How do you spot dehydration in birds?

Answer:

Hi Jennifer,

Dehydration is hard to detect with birds. The eyes may appear sunken, and if you have a species with a bare face, that skin may look wrinkled or just different than normal. Dehydration is usually secondary to other health issues, so you would most likely need to take your bird to a Vet anyway. If you suspect dehydration because the bird was without water or became overheated, offer water and generally he will readily drink, but you still may need to take him to a Vet.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
