Diamond Dove

Is it safe for my dove to eat parakeet seed mix or does he have to have the kaytee dove mix?

Hi,

It is better to offer a pelleted diet. Diamond Doves generally eat food made for finches or canaries. Parakeet food can be too large sometimes. I would recommend a pelleted diet along with some fresh greens and chopped veggies. You could feed a small amount of a fortified seed mix, since Doves do eat their seeds whole so they would get some vitamins that way, too. A regular dove mix may be too large because Diamond doves are much smaller than other dove species.
