Diamond doves and nutri berries

Hello, my avian vet recently told me to feed one of my diamond doves with nutri berries as he is being difficult to convert to Harrison’s lifetime superfine pellets. I bought the classic nutriberries bucket and give the nutri berries crushed so he can eat them. But I notice he does not eat everything perhaps due to the size of some larger seeds. He prefers the smaller seeds. I usually offer the crushed berries mixed with some of my Harrison’s mashed pellets. Veggies are in separate dish. Would you recommend a specific nutri berries reference for a small sized bird such as diamond dove (7 inches from head to tail). I am trying to have less waste too and wonder if the classic reference is not for bigger birds. Is there a better option for ne to feed my bird with?

Answer:

Hi Elodie,

I would recommend the parakeet or Cockatiel size Nutri-Berries for the Diamond Doves as they will be mainly small seeds and pieces. The original are just the first type we made. We have since released gourmet flavors in fruit or veggie flavors. We also make Pellet-Berries which might be more interesting for them like the other Nutri-Berries. We also make our original daily diet pellet as well as our Tropical Fruit pellets. The Tropical Fruit pellets are very popular with birds! If your doves prefer the smaller pieces, the pellets come in a finch size which is actually a granule. This is the size I usually recommend for doves – both diamond and ringnecked. Since doves swallow their food whole, I agree the little diamond doves prefer smaller seeds and pieces.
