Diamond doves lying in nest without any eggs

Hello. I have a pair of young diamond doves. For more than a week, they both sit in the nest in turns or together but have not laid eggs. What is the reason ? Do I need to take any special action?

Answer:

Hi Abbas,

How young are these birds? They need to be close to two years old before you give them a nest. If they are younger than this, I would remove the nest until they are old enough. They only need a nest for breeding. Adult birds do not sleep in a nest, they only use one for laying eggs and incubating them. Your birds need to be on a nutritionally balanced diet. You can also offer chopped leafy greens and veggies and some cooked eggs with the shell washed, crushed and cooked with them. They only need the eggs when they are breeding, laying eggs and feeding chicks.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
