Do budgies need to be kept in their cage before we leave on vacation, to prepare them for the temporary change?

I have two budgies who very much have free reign at home and fly around the living room all day every day. They have a big cage that they sleep and eat in. We are going to be leaving them for two weeks at my in-laws’ house where they will stay in their cage. My parents in law will just change their food and water and make sure the cage floor is clean but not let them out. Should I be keeping them in their cage more now, before we leave on vacation, so that it won’t be a shock for them? Or will they be fine having their normal freedom now and then readjusting to stay in their cage for those 2 weeks?
Thank you for your help

Answer:

Hi,

I would keep their normal schedule. When they are in a different house, they will be happy to be in their own cage since that is home to them and will make them feel safe.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,
