Drinking my glass of water

My bird likes to hop on my glass and drink my water. Can I drink after him ?

Answer:

Hi Bev,

It’s actually more a case of can he drink after you. 🙂 Parrots can be susceptible to over growths of bacteria and yeast, so drinking after each other isn’t ideal. A lot of bird owners eat and drink with their birds with no ill effect. But the chance is there for transmitting something. Some parrots can carry zoonotic diseases – a disease than can pass from animal to human. The risk is generally low. I would have something ready that he can drink out of if you are concerned.

Thank you for asking Lafeber,

Brenda
