Fake egg – Ask the Vet Webinar Feb 24

Several days ago my Meyer parrot began getting very broody. She did not lay an egg, but instead “adopted” a small round rattle as her egg. She now lays on it. When is an appropriate time to remove this “egg”?

Answer:

Hi Grace,

I would take it away from her. Ideally distract her with a toy to get her in another room and take it while she can’t see you do it. Something like this is actually a hormone trigger. Dr. Lamb and Lisa Bono discuss accidental triggers like this in their hormone themed webinars. Hormones are such a big issue with pet birds that we revisit the topic every spring. So both will be presenting on hormones next month. Meanwhile, we do have a playlist of their past hormone webinars.

Thank you for viewing the webinar,

Brenda
